The S80 by Swedish auto manufacturer Volvo is one of the safest luxury sedans on the market. The S80 offers an array of safety monitoring systems including the Automatic Blind Spot Monitoring system, which will alert you to the presence of another vehicle in your blind spot and the City System which will automatically apply the brakes in the event of an impending rear end collision. Though the electrical systems in the Volvo S80 are usually without problem, some 2nd generation Volvo S80 owners have experienced a very dangerous issue with the electrical monitoring system.
An electrical malfunction in the vehicle’s computer on S80’s manufactured in 2008 can cause a no-signal fault in the fuel pump. When the onboard computer senses no signal in the fuel pump, it automatically shuts down the vehicle – no matter where the vehicle is at. This can be very hazardous especially if traveling at a high rate of speed when it malfunctions.
Volvo is aware of this issue and has issued a recall on 2008’s due to this electrical system malfunction. If this occurs while you are driving, the 2nd generation Volvo S80 most likely will not start again. We recommend that you have your vehicle taken to the nearest Swedish import service center for an evaluation.
The service mechanics at your local Volvo service center will be happy to repair this or any other recalls you may have for your 2nd generation Volvo S80. In many cases, they are cheaper than the dealerships. The will be able to run full diagnostics, if you so choose, to make sure your vehicle is running in top shape.
