I live quite a distance from Private Volvo Mechanic Chicago and could have transferred my car's service closer to home. After I tried his service, it's worth the drive to be treated so well. The repair, prices and services were great. He fixed all problems to perfection. To me, it is well worth the drive! Dealerships close to my home don't compare with his quality. I purchased a 2006 Volvo C70 for my daughter. Although a pre-inspection had been done by an internet based company called Lemon Squad giving the car a clean bill of health I had a nagging feeling that there were some underlying issues (there was some vibration in during acceleration, rough idle). As Volvo's are a little different from other brands of cars I wanted to find a specialist to have a look. Doing some looking around on the Swedish car forums (Swedespeed for example) I found that Private Volvo Mechanic kept coming up for being knowledgable and performing high-quality work. So, I reached out and got a response very quickly (like less than an hour and it was later in the evening after normal business hours). After talking about the issues I set up an appointment and Private Volvo Mechanic went through the car in detail and showed me what needed to be fixed. I agreed to the work and when the parts came in set up an appointment. The car was dropped off. During the next couple of days, I got texts with updates about status and estimated time of pick up which was great. When I picked up the car everything was completed and the car was much improved.

Overall, if you have a Volvo this is the person to go to. He knows his stuff and works hard to get the job done in a timely fashion at a reasonable cost. As a note, his price for a timing belt change (using Volvo parts) was about half of what a local dealer wanted to charge me.

I had a problem with the trunk/boot lock mechanism. The owner of Private Volvo Mechanic looked at it and, within five minutes, had it fixed. I am greatly appreciative that he took care of this in a simple and cost effective manner. I will absolutely go back to him for my future volvo service and repairs.

This guy knows Volvo cars inside and out. He was able to fix my broken oil pan within a few hours at literally half the price my other mechanic was trying to charge me for. He has a whole shop with an amazing lift and all the equipment and tools you would need to do good work on these cars. He was a pleasure to talk to and has certified Volvo mechanic plaques all over the walls, this guy is the real deal and the best mechanic I ever known period!!

Excellent service and instant response to calls and texts. Private Volvo Mechanic did some major work on my XC90 and even took time to explain what he did. When was the last time you talked to a Volvo mechanic for 30 minutes after repair?

I’ve used Private Volvo mechanic before and will continue to use as long as I own my Volvo. His knowledge and honesty is refreshing. He tells you like it is. More or less I knew what my issue was but once he checked it over, gave me a complete run down of problems he encountered and what I needed to get it fix. I have an XC90 and it was a bit sluggish when I brought it in. I left feeling confident; my vehicle was back to how it was running when I first purchase it. If you want great service, quality of work, honesty and great price, I highly recommend you taking your vehicle to private Volvo mechanic. You will not regret it!

Excellent Volvo mechanic. I have 160k miles on my XC70 and finally found an extremely thorough, trustworthy mechanic to help me keep the car in top shape. He goes above and beyond the call of duty and uses his technical background to find solutions to difficult diagnostics. The car passed emissions and is running very well. I will not go anywhere else!

I was traveling to Chicago for the weekend from Minnesota when my Volvo starting making a loud noise. I called Private Volvo Mechanic in Chicago and got an appointment right away! Not only did I get an appt, but the right rear wheel hub was fixed the same day for a great price! If it wasn't for this repair shop It would have ruined my entire vacation.

I have been taking my Volvos here since 2014. I will never go to a dealer. Responsive, honest, and fair prices. You cannot believe how lucky you are if you have a Volvo to have a mechanic like this in the area.

Recently moved my car from California to Illinois. Was looking for a great independent mechanic to take care of my car.

Private Volvo Mechanic seemed like an interesting place to start. It is all a bit odd, starting with the name. But, the reviews were stellar so I reached out. I am adding my name to the list of stellar reviews.

An additional complication is that my daughter who attends university in Chicago was driving the car. I needed her to take the car to a trusted mechanic who would fix what was broken and no more. Private Volvo Mechanic sent me video of my car’s under carriage to show me details of what needed to be fixed. This was very helpful.

I knew the work needed to be done as I was aware from prior visits to another mechanic in California. I had put it off primarily due to pricing. Private Volvo Mechanic’s pricing was very fair.

I will be returning to him for work in the future.

Private Volvo Mechanic has in depth knowledge of Volvo vehicles. He is extremely thorough in all his work, from simple oil changes to brake repairs to engine work. If you have a Volvo vehicle in Chicago, you really need to have Private Volvo Mechanic in your contact list.

I have had three Volvo vehicles, and I trust Private Volvo Mechanic completely.

I have a high mileage (318k) S70, the car isn't worth much money in itself but I like to keep it running because it's worth more to me than what I can sell it for. Volvo Mechanic Chicago has helped me keep the car in good running conditions for quite some time now, very happy with the work and price is reasonable.

Another wonderful experience with private Volvo Mechanic! Went in for a simple oil change, and had 2 lights replaced, and diagnosed another issue so I can be aware that the part will eventually fail. In other words, I can now plan for any future repairs. I was informed of everything honestly, clearly, and it was so easy to work with my schedule! If you have a Volvo this is the best thing you can do. Pricing is fair and up front. Do yourself a favor and use this mechanic.

Volvo Mechanic fixed my volvo super fast - solving a tricky headlight problem, a check engine light and a tune-up. He also examined the car for all issues and gave me a detailed summary, explaining everything that was found - what should be fixed now and what could wait. We discussed what was needed & what it would cost, then he did what we agreed on at the agreed on price. It was smooth and easy, and everything was done right. I"m very pleased, and glad to work with someone who knows volvos well.

I bought this car in 1991...drove it for 7 years...then, gave it to my mother to drive. She decided it was time to give the car up, so I decided to take it back and bring it back up to speed. The A/C wasn't working. But, we also discovered there were many leaking pipes and seals. In a week's time, he had the car running like a top and the A/C working at full capacity. I appreciate his thorough analysis and quality work. And, he's followed up twice now to be sure everything is working fine. Not many mechanics take the time to follow up. If you're looking for a trustworthy, good mechanic who knows Volvos, this is the guy you need.

Great to deal with. Returned email inquiry promptly and set up an inspection of the vehicle. Recently bought the 2003 Volvo XC90 T6 and since I never owned a Volvo I was hoping to fine a mechanic that is familiar with it. He walked me thru what the needs and options that the car has as he test drove and inspected the car. I definitely will have my car serviced there. A very pleasant and informative experience.

I had some reservations about allowing my car to be serviced privately by someone I didn't know. However, once I met him, my mind was put at ease. He was very knowledgeable about what my car needed and offered suggestions on which repairs were immediate versus those that could wait a few months. The work was done efficiently at the quoted price, and I have had no problems. I will only go to him for my repairs now.

I have been driven Volvo's for years now and I always had work done at Volvo dealership. This is the first time I decided to give Private Volvo Mechanic (PVM) a try with my 2010 XC90. I needed to have the auto-lock mechanism replaced on the passenger door. He was very professional, accommodated my time, and replaced the system as quickly as it was possible while talking good care of the car. He also gave me future maintenance advise. When need arise, I am planning on going back to PVM. I am very satisfied with his work.

My husband found the “Private Volvo Mechanics” and I’m so happy he did. I’m very pleased and impressed with the work and knowledge he has. On the phone, I convey specifically what I was experiencing with the noise my XC90 was making and he knew right away what the problem was. At the time of appt., he inspected my vehicle and walk me through the process explaining the cause of my current problem in detail and additional problems detected. The day of service he provided me with a loner since the wait time would be longer than 3 hours. Once I picked up my vehicle, notice a car wash was done and he explained parts and services performed. The service I received was to my satisfaction if not better. I would highly recommend his work over previous mechanics and dealer I’ve visited and I’m totally pleased to say, I consider him as my personal mechanic now and in the future.

He did a great job for us. We had a problem with our heater and didn't want to put a lot of money into the car because we planned to get rid of it as soon as we found a good replacement. With a Chicago winter coming on we couldn't do without heat. He made it work! Highly recommended!!!

Amazing experience. My niece pulled my mirror off on my passenger mirror and since I travel a lot for work I needed to get it replaced asap. I knew the dealer would've charged a astronomical price to get fix so I decided to do a google search and I was thrilled to find Volvo mechanics. He answered my email right away and gave me a price on the repair within minutes. The repair literally took five minutes and he was extremely professional!! I will defiantly be going back in the near future.

I found out about PVM via a google search for a mechanic specializing in Volvos after receiving a huge repair estimate from the dealership. After a call my appointment was booked. My Volvo has 165K+ miles and needed new belts, alternator, water pump, MAF sensor and more. All the work was completed at a fraction of the cost the dealership wanted all with new OEM Volvo parts (which is a must). I would not hesitate to go back for more work. Communication was phenomenal, I was sent pics and video of the work being done. Ed is truly passionate about cars and knows his stuff. After picking up the car he followed up to make sure everything was fine. I definitely would recommend going to PVM if you have a Volvo.

This is my third service performed at this shop. After getting outrageous quotes at the dealer and another private shop for the computer for the HVAC system I was pleased to get the same repair for less than half the other quotes. The price combined with the highest level of experience and previous satisfaction are the reasons I will return to this excellent experienced mechanic. Private Volvo Mechanic did a phenomenal job getting our Volvo back up and running.

We started having problems with the car about 6 months ago and it was becoming unreliable. My mechanic friend tried, but couldn't figure the problem out. I took it to the dealer multiple times and spent a few thousand dollars, but the same problems kept reappearing. How is it that a dealer cannot fix their own car?

I was getting ready to cut my losses and dump the car, which I love, when I found Private Volvo Mechanic. Within a day he had a whole list of what he found wrong and gave me a very fair price, with the option to use Volvo or after market parts. He also offered rebuilt and used parts to help save money as an option over new parts and clearly explained everything. We went ahead with the work and I was still skeptical.

It has been a month and the car is working just fine. I'm so happy to have found him and will use him exclusively to service my Volvo for now on.

He is honest, fair and explains everything in a way that is easy to understand. Great Job!

Great service! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Took my 2004 v70 for rough idle and power loss. Diagnosed and identified problem immediately due to a bad throttle body. It's very comforting to know a Volvo expert is looking at your car with sophisticated tools required for Volvo cars. I definitely recommend to any Volvo owner that wants to avoid expensive dealer prices. Will be going back for any issues i may have. Feels good to be a Volvo owner again.

After an alert popped up on my dashboard, I went to a Northshore Volvo dealership to have it checked. The service center at the dealership ended up charging me $130 for a diagnostic check (even though their website says they don't charge for diagnostic checks), with the explanation being that they subtract the cost of the diagnostic from the total of any repair work. After learning that they wanted to replace my seatbelt and coinciding sensor (a complete load of BS) for something like $800, I told them to keep the $130 for the diagnostic, and began searching for a mechanic that would reasonably address the issue. I just want to say that I'm greatful for finding PVM. He was able to thoroughly handle the issue with my vehicle. He is professional, highly knowledgeable, and walks you through every step of the work he does. Unfortunately, for the dealership I originally went to, the PVM confirmed that they were trying to squeeze me for extra cash, so I won't be giving them any further business. I plan to consult the PVM for any future repairs or maintenance, and so should you!

Okay this is the first review I've ever put online. It's due to the fact that this mechanic is trustworthy efficient and very knowledgeable about the product brand. I had a complicated issue and my HVAC system and he diagnosed it correctly after several failed attempts by others and repaired it for less than half of what I was quoted elsewhere. He is trustworthy which goes a long way for auto repair service. And would highly recommend him to inspect and diagnose any other problems in the future. Compliments to the small business community

He has been my mechanic for 6+ years. I trust his recommendations and work implicitly. He makes service a breeze by picks up the car, makes sure it's ready when I'm return home and can pick it up on way in from O'Hare. He is the best mechanic I've ever had and recommend him to everyone I know.

He found me on YELP about 3 years ago. I had a been using a neighborhood shop until my last breakdown. The angle gear snapped and I was heading into the winter without AWD. My local shop told me he couldn't do the job due to complexity. He said I'd have to go the the dealer. This is when I reached out to him at Private Volvo Mechanic. I was hesitant at first. From all the information I was able to find about him, I thought this was too good to be true. Then he provided several references, with whom I spoke. According to them, he was amazing. I met up with him, dropped it off and had him do 3 major repairs. He's not the most convenient to where I live, but going out of my way for the service he provides is worth it. He sent me photos of all the new Volvo parts he'd be installing. He then sent me pictures of each one of those new parts on my car. When I picked up my car at his home, he took the time to show me the parts he took out and explained to me about other future repairs to watch for.. He is A #1 in my book. I am happy I trusted him. Oh, and I saved a ton of money. The dealer would have been much more expensive.

I worked with him as I was in search of a cost-effective and qualified mechanic to perform a 90K service on my Volvo S40. He is indeed both. He is thorough in his explanation of services, competent, and reasonably priced. He's also a really nice guy! I'm now a loyal customer.

I am very happy with the service provided by him. After purchasing my used volvo s80 2009, I took it in for a 120k service. I was infirmed of everything that needed to be done and why. The car runs like new now. Very happy with the outcome and highly suggest it.

I come all the way from Indiana to have my car repaired here. He's honest and reasonably priced.. He even checks up with u a few hundred miles late to see if everything is working okay after repair. That's good business practice..

Very professional and knowledgeable about Volvo vehicles. Easy to communicate with and easy-going personality. He provides a loaner car while your car is being worked on. This makes it all very convenient. Can't own a Volvo without having a good mechanic you can depend on. Give him a call!

We normally do all maintenance and repairs at the Volvo dealer. We needed brakes and side mirrors replaced due to being sideswiped and other misc items and just had enough of paying through the nose. I found him online and am so glad we did. He is a great guy. Made us comfortable and treated us right from start to finish. A+. Fantastic.. We are not using the dealer anymore. He is now our Volvo mechanic and we highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, honest, fair, dependable mechanic...

I had alternator issues with my convertible and was recommended to him by someone in the industry, he is very professional and made recommendations as to how to repair my vehicle. He not only finished earlier than scheduled but discovered one part didn't need replaced so took that off bill and came under budget . Will definitely use next time something comes up very satisfied.

Last chance for me as the dealer & private shop gave me the bad news, that among everything else - the turbo was done & needed to be replaced. Saw Volvo mechanic reviews online & figured why not? Wrote him, and as advertised he responded with an email of his own plus a text to confirm. Long story short, brought the car to him, left it with him & after his review of the car, gave me a detailed report of what needed to be done, in order of importance. He never once pushed for the work, and answered everything in a clear, consise manor. Great guy, thorough, and his work was done in a reasonable time frame, and reasonable cost. My Volvo guy from here on out! BTW: the turbo did NOT need to be replaced!!

When my car's warranty expired i was looking for a mechanic to provide the necessary maintenance, and I found that PVM was very close to my location, so I scheduled an appointment. I found PVM to be informative, reassuring, and fully capable of performing the work I requested. I'll definitely continue using his services as long as I own my Volvo XC60. Also, I didn't require a loaner vehicle while he worked on my car, but he offers one for those who need it, which makes PVM a nice choice.

I had a very good experience with this mechanic. He was straight forward and honest. He advised me on which repairs were immediate vs those that can wait a few months. He finished my car in the time frame that he originally quoted. Definitely worth it!

I found him 4 years ago online when I moved to Chicago. He is amazing mechanic and person. I just rolled over 263,000 miles on my volvo and he has been a big part of keeping it going. He is honest, friendly, and truthful. He always tells me what I need done and what needs to be done in the future with my car. He is fair in his pricing and I can contact him by text if something is going on with my car and he is ALWAYS there to help. I recommend everyone to use his service. He is a ROCK STAR in my eyes!

I owned m s80 for 10 years and and the last 6 years i was servicing with him . It is like going to the dealer but not paying dealer price. With me he was always straight forward and honest never replace parts that did not need to be replaced like other mechanics do. If i need parts to be replaced he would let me know what i need to buy or he could buy them for me form the dealer or aftermarket, would be my choice. I recommend Private Volvo Mechanic for anyone that owns a Volvo and not only...

He did a great job. We had issues with the transmission and we all know what that means if we would bring it to Volvo.....he diagnosed the issue, and flushed the transmission. Throughout the whole thing he explained everything he did to the car and I just had a feeling that I was getting very professional and honest service. He even drove the car to my house after service. We saved A LOT of money. The car is running smoothly. I couldn't recommend this service enough. I am just sad it took me so long to find this guy since I have waste so much going to the dealer (both time and $$$)

I have owned my XC70 for 7 years now. I bought it used with 80K miles on it. It was all dealer maintained from the previous owner so I continued to follow that trend. Soon though it began to get really expensive and they were always pushing me to do maintenance that I really did not want to do. So I began to get lax because I was trying to avoid the costs involved. I now had 160K on the car and began hearing some funny noises and the performance was just not the same. I was speaking to a friend about taking it in to the dealer again and dreading the bill. He recommended the private Volvo Mechanic. I decided to give him a shot and I will never regret that day. This guy loves Volvo's ! He took my car, diagnosed the several issues I had and even documented his progress on the car by sending me photos and video. My AWD was out and I didn't even know it. The Dealer wanted to replace my transfer case (BIG $$) because they said it was leaking. He sent me a photo and said that it was only seeping fluid very slowly and not a real issue at this time, but we would keep an eye on it. He did a total tune up , replaced my rusting out exhaust and replaced my rear oil pump to get the AWD functioning again. His prices were very fair and his knowledge of the car was fantastic. There was never a time when I did not trust his opinion. Bottom line: He knows what he is doing, He tells you the truth, His prices are fair for the difficulty of the work he is doing. I will never go anywhere else again. I really love the car and do not want to sell. I now have 160K on the vehicle and can easily see 200 and maybe beyond with this type of quality care and customer service.

Private Volvo mechanic fixed my 2002 S40 with OEM parts but a huge discount on labor. Work was performed on point if not better than dealer. Experienced technician has been in the business. VOLVO owners take notice!

Since then, I have been enjoying the way my car performs compared to the way it was before the work was done. What a find!! I found this mechanic via referral from another Volvo owner. Little did I know I'd be needing his services so soon. I just got my car back and the total experience was great. He kept me informed throughout the process with texts and photos. He knows his stuff - a 17 year certified Volvo mechanic. I'm certain I saved at least 40% off what I would have paid at a Volvo dealer using the same Volvo parts. My car is back to running at top condition. I won't take my car anywhere else in the future. He's honest, very reasonably priced and skilled. What more could you want?

If you own a Volvo, look no further than Private Volvo Mechanic for your mechanic. He is AMAZING! When I brought my vehicle to him, he spent an hour looking at if from front to back, and everywhere in between. He told me the problem areas, and didn't bet around the bush. He explained the most urgent issues and told me what could wait, and what would be the outcome. His rates are well below anywhere else on Chicago, and his knowledge is second to none. He's also a Volvo driver, so he understands the vehicles from both perspectives. Honest, intelligent, excellent. If those are traits you're looking for in a mechanic, shoot him an email and you'll never be sorry.

My husband found this shop online and I'll admit I was a bit skeptical as we didn't know anything about him, but we decided to take the gamble and see if he could service our older model Volvo. We are so happy we did! He was able to fix everything needed and told us honestly what we didn't need done right away. We took the car in numerous times to him for various things and he always fixed the issue at a fraction of what the dealer would have. I'd recommend him to anyone with a Volvo. You can tell he prides himself in his work and has a love of all things Volvo.

I only have good things to say. He took care of my '92 Volvo 240 quickly, professionally, and for a super reasonable price. I've used him twice and none of the problems he's resolved for me have resurfaced more than a year later. Chicago weather can be cruel on old Volvos like mine but I rest easier knowing that he can fix any issue I have no problem!

This guy is truely Awesome. Cannot say good enough things about him. This guy is your best mechanic, your best friend, your best neighbor, your best driver to just say few things. He is always available and will help you in any way you needed. He will do the BEST job on your car but check this out....he will be the CHEAPEST....How is this possible? Because he is not greedy like others, he understand you and cares about you and believes that money is not everything. He will be my mechanic as long as we both shall live :)
